A trip on the Puhoi River by Canoe.

A great day for all, with lots of interesting things to see and do.

Itinerary

This is a day trip from Auckland, just head up the Northern Motorway (highway 1)  and you will eventually come to a sign telling you to turn off for Puhoi (about 50km).

Pre-booking is esstential as when the weather is good it can be hard to hire a canoe.

The Puhoi River is tidal and so depending on the direction of the tide you will start your trip at either end to ensure you are paddling in the same direction as the tidal flow. We started at the estuary end and finished our trip near the Puhoi Pub which was very convenient.

After all that paddling a well earned beer at the Puhoi Pub is called for. This Pub is one of the oldest establishments around and very popular with the locals. If  you are travelling by Motorhome, you can just park by the Pub for the night. No need to worry about drink driving and the Pub serves great food and drink.
